Christmas Time at Springvale Care Home

Christmas has arrived at Springvale Care Home in East Dunbartonshire and the residents and dedicated staff members are enjoying getting in the Christmas spirit. Our care home has been beautifully decorated with Christmas trees and fairy lights as a festive background for our residents when participating in the festive activities planned by our Activities Coordinator for the weeks leading up to Christmas. Activities have included singing Christmas carols, charity appeals, Christmas jumper day, and many more.

Christmas Jumper Day

On the 10th of December, our Springvale Care Home ladies all took part in Christmas jumper day to kickstart the festivities for all of our residents to get into the Christmas spirit.

At Springvale Care Home we feel passionate about encouraging our residents to join in with our activities programme as it is a fantastic opportunity for residents to build new relationships with one another and to try new hobbies.

Children’s Toy Appeal

This year we have chosen to support a non-profit group to help struggling families in East Dunbartonshire. This group relies on donations to make a difference at Christmas by our donated toys.

Our family at Springvale Care Home are extremely grateful for our dedicated staff members, residents and their loved ones that took the time to donate to our ‘Children’s toy appeal” as it was an absolute success.

Agnes, who started up this group sadly passed away, yet her daughter and granddaughter Megan have chosen to take the group over. They see the awful struggles that families face daily, Megan said - “you are all amazing and she can not believe how generous everyone has been, thank you so much”.

Springvale's Very Own Christmas Market & Light Display

On Saturday 11th of December, our residents and staff members put on an outstanding Christmas market and light display for our residents loved ones to join us to celebrate the lead up to Christmas.

The family and friends of everyone at Springvale Care home donated towards our raffle and light display to assure the evening was a success for all. The residents and their loved ones danced the evening away with festive activities such as; Christmas stalls, raffles, singing entertainment, festive food and drink.

A massive thank you to everyone who helped make the evening a success by donating towards our raffle and stalls which sold out within half an hour. We raised a massive £850.00 towards our Residents funds which will be contributed towards our activities programme for lots of fun upcoming activities for our residents over the coming months.

Christmas Party Games

Our staff at Springvale Care Home have gone above and beyond to ensure our residents in our Thistle, Primrose and Heather unit made the most out of the festive season, as they enjoyed a well earnt Christmas party. Our residents were delighted as they took part in plenty of Christmas games, sweet treats, and live staff performances of musical chairs!

Mrs Scott who has recently moved into the Primrose unit shared her review of the Christmas party and said “it was the best party she has ever been to, and that’s saying something”.

At Springvale Care Home we value our resident’s opinions and are always focusing on what makes them happy. Therefore, we regularly encourage our residents to provide us with any feedback they may have regarding the activities programme we have to offer at our care home. It is an opportunity to provide us with any ideas they may have on upcoming events and to discuss with us any improvements that can be made in the future.

Christmas Arts and Crafts

On the third week of December, our family at Springvale Care Home were busy with a week full of festive activities. Our residents highly enjoyed making Christmas baubles and cards for their loved ones, as well as baking Christmas cookies and an unexpected visit from Pat our maintenance man’s dog.

At any opportunity we can, we actively encourage our residents to take part in our arts and crafts scheme as a way of expressing themselves and engaging with fellow residents and care workers.

Creating arts and crafts for our residents loved ones helps to maintain the relationships they have with their friends and family, especially around the Christmas period.

Children’s Christmas Carol Service

On the 20th of December, the children of St Machan’s primary school visited our care home to perform a Christmas Carol show to our residents. Due to the current covid restrictions, they were not able to come into our care home, but they performed a beautiful carol performance in our private garden.

The children were gifted with a surprise Santa visit with a gift and sweet treats, as well as a Christmas card from our residents as a thank you for their outstanding performance.

Our residents are Springvale Care Home were also lucky enough to receive homemade Christmas cards and decorations from the Children of Lennoxtown Primary School to make our care home extra special this year.

We have recognised how our residents maintaining a relationship with the local community has an effect on our care home and residents, which is why we are fortunate enough to be currently liaising with our local school to set up a pen-pal relationship between our residents and the children.
