It Was Celebrations All Round to Honour the 76th Anniversary of VE Day

Baking Cake for VE Day

On the 8th May, our residents had a fab old time celebrating the 76th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day. Poignant wartime classics such as Run Rabbit Run, We’ll Meet Again, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and The Sun has Got His Hat On were enjoyed by everyone.

The cakes for afternoon tea were decorated with blueberries and raspberries to echo the colours of the Union Jack, as residents marked over three quarters of a century since the end of the war in Europe.

Some residents vividly remember the end of the war, the parties and feeling of sheer euphoria on that day. One resident said: “it was an overwhelming sense of relief and joy.”
