Marley, the Therapy Dog, Visits Springvale Residents

Residents Petting Dog

Research shows that the presence of a dog can have a positive impact on physiology and psychology and helps to reduce stress levels. Stroking a pet has been shown to lower blood pressure and the heart rate, bringing a calming effect – but also triggering oxytocin, a hormone that increases trust in humans.

Before lockdown, residents at Springvale used to receive a weekly visit from a therapy dog. A lovely reminder of a family pet growing up or perhaps of a much-loved pet that was unable to move to the home. In order to raise a few smiles, a member of the Springvale team brought in their dog, Marley, to meet everyone.

Marley was very well behaved and brought much joy and laughter to residents and staff alike. He hopes to visit again soon.
